New Yorker Jiwon Lee Simpkins, also known as Jiwon, grew up surrounded by diverse musical influences, mastering multiple instruments and styles due to his parents’ guidance and his own growing passion for music. Jiwon’s musical journey began as a personal exploration, leading him to develop a unique sound that defies categorization and resonates with audiences for its authenticity and relatability.

While studying Philosophy at Harvard University, Jiwon’s dedication to music grew stronger. During the pandemic, he gained the attention of a major label A&R, confirming his path as a musician. Jiwon is devoted to solo pursuits, viewing music as a deeply personal expression of his life experiences and emotions. His first album, “album 1,” released in April 2023, displayed his diverse style and introspective lyrics, receiving critical acclaim and establishing his aim to rise up the charts and make a lasting impact in the hearts of everyone who listens to him.

Today we’re looking at Jiwon’s latest song, “so in love wth u,”  a poignant exploration of love, longing, and emotional vulnerability. Through heartfelt storytelling, the song navigates the complexities of being deeply in love while grappling with doubts and uncertainties about the relationship. Meanwhile, the music interwoven is difficult to pigeonhole, as pretty much everything Jiwon’s released so far; while you could simply pin an alt-rock label onto it, the truth is that the song turns that on its head with romantic pop tenderness and even a subtle swing of R&B, or the like, for good measure.

“This was actually one of the first proper songs I ever wrote. It took me a while to figure out the arrangement and the production, but I was basically going for the quintessential 80s diner pop song. It’s not about anyone in particular; it’s more a celebration of love songs and that era of songwriting.” – Jiwon

The lyrics paint a vivid picture of emotional turmoil and vulnerability. They capture the raw and conflicting emotions of being deeply in love while grappling with doubts and uncertainties about the relationship. Jiwon’s heartfelt confessional is intertwined with a sense of longing for honesty and a reckoning of one’s insecurities and selfishness, creating a poignant and relatable narrative of love and self-discovery.
