Our Surprise Party fashion editorial was the last shoot for the forthcoming SS2011 Surprise Issue!

Wanna know what happens when seven models, one photographer, three interns, one publicist, two stylists, a food visionary, an amazing hair/makeup artist, tens and thousands dollars worth of designer clothes and jewels including Alexander Wang, Jill Sander, Proenza Schouler, Kai-aakman,Thomas Wylde; and of course a bunch of Ladygunn editors, are all crowded into a swanky hotel suite? Welcome to Miami.

I got to spend some time in Miami this week and the sun is what the doctor ordered. Miami is like L.A., South America, and lots of money all mixed into one place. The architecture is gorgeous, the inhabitants are beautiful, and the weather is conducive to strapless dresses all afternoon. It gets better. I spent time with lovely people, sunned, and read magazines. I also ate things like tuna tartar, and homemade borscht. What? Yes. Amazing. Back to wheeling and dealing in New York and getting ready to launch the SS2011 issue. So much news, so little time to write at this moment. Here is my best attempt to explain Miami through cell phone pictures and music videos.

Behind The Scenes : Lia Ices

We shot the beautiful, talented, and very poised, musician Lia Ices for the Spring Summer issue over the weekend. In typical Ladygunn fashion it was awesome. There was a great selection of clothes to play dress up in from Eryn Brinie, Kai-aakman, ACNE, Rag and Bone, Koko Celeste, vintage and other miscellaneous garments and accessories. The location was a big, bright, original molding apartment that doubled as Shanna Fisher’s studio for the afternoon. There were wonderful accoutrements everywhere, tons of coffee, lace bunny ears, a fog machine, hot Italian visitors, rice cracker snacks, Chanel bags, and it all made for such a gorgeous and fun shoot. It was one of my favorites ever. There will be more in the SS2011 issue of Ladygunn. Lia is currently on tour and her album, Grown Unknown is out now.

Donny Miller, Beautiful People with Beautiful Feelings

Whenever life gets super heavy and everything starts annoying me I take out Donny Miller’s, ‘Beautiful People with Beautiful Feelings’. It’s great for a dose of entertaining reality checks. It was released in 2006 and remains timeless with its messages. It’s sort of like having a conversation with your devious (and gorgeous) alter ego all compiled for a self-help graphic novel. The images are super poppy, the phrases super self indulgent, truthful and victimizing. Miller expresses the sort of feelings you thought you were the only one feeling and in a really fashionable way. Here is the synopsis;

“Your whole life has been leading up to the point where you are looking at this.”

“Remember, you can have anything. You just have to think it.

Hey Diplo, remember that time we were married and had all those kids and in love? We lived in that house on 6th and A and we thought it would last forever. I would hold you at night by the fireplace even in summer and sing sweet nothings in your ear while you would just beatbox to the melody?

Ok, I just made that up. A woman is allowed to dream.

Sarah Leora

Sarah Leora just emailed us her Lookbook and we thought it was so fantastic! Sarah at 17, is already more than a budding fashionista. Her namesake line Sarah Leora is already being talked about. The line is full of sweet, innocent, and a little bit mischievous pieces that only the mind of a teenager can conceive in such a chic way.

Behind The Scenes : The Pains of Being Pure At Heart

Shooting The Pains of Being Pure at Heart at Sweet Revenge the other morning was a delight!

The band was super hot and cool in person. Their publicist Jennie was wearing the most fantastic boots I have seen this winter. Photographer, Shanna Fisher was amazing and beautiful as always. Quentin Fears had racks full of great designers to play dress up in; Samantha Pleet, KREWLwear and Shipley and Halmos to name a few. Christine dug her car our of snow to let us in her bar, and there was coffee, almond croissants and cherry/coconut pop tarts for everyone.

Mag Hag: I LOVE fake

The Grunge Issue is out! If you don’t know about this magazine that is, well, really stupid because you should. The editor, Jolijn Snijders is sort of like the high-end, fashionable, hot girl, version of Larry Clark. Her magazine is really awesome. Her photographs are good, youthful, a little and dangerous, they make the over hyped television show Skins seem like a bad parody of itself. I mean who wasn’t doing drugs and dressing slutty in high school?

There is a long spread on Mark Siplo which makes the whole issue come alive almost immediately.

The fashion spreads are gorg, per usual.

Go and look at it and get some culture that is good for you.
