Brooklyn’s all-girl lo-fi pop trio Vivian Girls has just released the video for “Take It As It Comes,” the most bubbly track off their latest album, Share the Joy.  Filled with land-line phones, pink tiger-print bedspreads, a Prince poster, and a ton of hairspray, the video incorporates the call-and-response conversation in the Shangri-Las-esque song.  Lead singer and guitarist Cassie Ramone gives bassist Katy Goodman love advice, telling her to “think with your head, not with your heart” and to “take it as it comes.” Watch the video to see if Katy listens to her girls. I have been listening to this album incessantly over the last few weeks and it fills a void I never knew I needed filled. More than electronica, new age or synth- pop, the Junior Boys sounds issues elements of soul that make you want to dance while crying. It’s All True, the Canadian duo’s fourth alum has done an impeccable job of crafting an album that always leaves you wanting more. The beats are out of this world and a new way to approach music. Jeremy Greenspan’s, breath heavy voice is seductive in the way that  like I stated previously leaves you wanting more…

The most sophisticated pop song I have heard in a long time is ”A Truly Happy Ending”. The song explores longings, freedom and reality in dance heavy beat that might make you want to do the fist pump and choreographed dances with your friends. Other standouts are, “Itchy Fingers”, “Playtime”, “The Reservoir”, “Second Chance”, and the epic close “Banana Ripple”.

Greenspan went to Shanghai to write and begin recording It’s All True. Traces of the influence of the trip can be heard in  ”Itchy Fingers” which features local musicians Greenspan recorded during his sojourn and seen on the cover, (Jeremy’s sister took the album cover of the UK Pavilion in Shanghai, China).  When Greenspan returned to his native Hamilton, Ontario he was joined by Matthew Didemus to record in the band’s recently constructed studio where Greenspan had recently mixed and recorded a few tracks on Caribou’s most recent album, Swim.

This album drops today and the  best advice I can give you is to go buy it. It’s All True made me a very happy girl.

Junior Boys will be touring around the world in 2011 with their first dates kicking off in early June in their native Canada, to be followed by extensive touring of the US and Europe.  Dates to be announced soon.

A full album from Justice is planned for later this year and if this single is any indication of what’s in store then it’s sure to be epic. Civilization is a nice blend of a layered, and reverberant sound married with the impacting electro-melodies that Justice is famous for. Oh yeah and the video is amazing!

This year, The Creators Project joined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to display innovative visual experiences over the three day event. Bands such as Arcade Fire, Animal Collective, and Interpol partnered with the Vice and Intel global network in order to enhance Main Stage performances, while also hosting retro-inspired video games and robot performances in the company’s tent. Aimed at fusing technology and art, The Creators Project revealed various pieces and installations made specifically for Coachella, including Muti Randolph’s enveloping Sahara Tent lighting installation, Mirage. Randolph, a Multimedia artist, set designer, and lighting engineer from Rio de Janiero, programmed Mirage to sync with the compositions of each set, providing a musical experience for all the senses. Ladygunn got a chance to meet with the brilliant artist and talk with him during some down time at the festival.

LG: Have you been enjoying the festival so far?
Randolph:I haven’t really had time to check it out cause I’ve been setting up and everything. I’m able to now though. But I did catch The Chemical Brothers set yesterday.

Oh yeah, all my friends went to that they and they said it was amazing.
Yeah, it really was incredible.

So, how did you go about making the installation? Did you do it yourself, or did you hire people to?
Yes, I had people helping me from Brazil and from Germany. I designed it, and this German company helped me build it because they have the equipment that all came from Germany. So, I had four technicians from Germany helping me build it, and I also had four or five people from Brazil to help me with software for the lighting installation.

Wow that’s amazing, a lot of people. How did you come up with the idea for the installation?
I had been working with this whole idea of taking over a whole space; it’s what I like to do, to create a very immersive environment. So you can feel it and see it from all places—just lights in all directions. It’s just what I like to do.

How do you think your piece enhances the experience of the people who view it, or the music that’s going along with lighting?
The idea is to make people feel music in different ways, not only hearing but also seeing the music. I do it through a software I’ve been developing in Brazil that takes the music and translates it in the computer and creates [the lighting].
