“Earthquake Weather” is a project in progress. It began early in the summer of 2008, when it was announced that a major earthquake, one that would create a Katrina-sized disaster, was very likely to strike Los Angeles in the next 10 years. This report dovetailed with ongoing bad news about the economy, the war, and the environment, and it increasedan uncertainty and apprehension about the future that was already in the air.

I wanted some way to work through and express the anxiety that I felt about these things in addition to my own personal anxieties, so I looked for a way to reflect that in my everyday environment. I wanted to illustrate the uneasiness and also the kind of willful slumber that is required to go about daily life in the City of Angels.
