Oh, Rex Manning Day, each year you come and go like a washed-up, one-hit-wonder pop star making a special appearance, reminding us all that the cult classic Empire Records – despite being lambasted by critics back in 1995 – is far from ready to leave our beloved pop culture collective any time soon. (And reminding us that we’ll never look as good in a plaid skirt and Doc Martens as Liv Tyler. Damn, girl!)
To celebrate all things Empire Records, we’ve put together a nostalgic playlist that transports us back to that radical and rebellious record store, where fighting the man and falling in love were the only options for a group of zany, grungy, over-dramatic teens.
