Carson Mchone‘s honey-crooned sophomore album Carousel is a sliding guitar, hymns by a fireplace, forsaken heart, type of soundtrack. The Austin based musician, who has been performing in honky tonks since the age of 16, sounds like the warmth of a vintage record playing through mahogany speakers.
“Drugs” was originally recorded by Chris Brecht, after getting permission Carson did some rewrites and turned the song into a Dolly Parton would approve of heartache classic.
Carson says of the track, “My ‘Drugs’ isn’t really about drugs at all, but it comes from that same dark place of needing to sate some desire or emptiness and being willing to use someone for that… It is about abuse.”
Carousel is out Oct 26th thru Nine Mile Records and Carson is currently on tour! Dates below.
