After 13 years, this November 2021 the tutelage that weighed on the Queen of Pop Britney Spears ended, and to celebrate it Head Bitch Music in association with the SoCal chapter of the ACLU have created an exceptional album of covers that includes some of the best musical pieces by the iconic pop artist, performed by the voices of 19 female and non-binary artists.
This album is not only music, it is also a message of solidarity and an example of what can be achieved when alliances are created in favor of just causes such as this. This record consists of 17 songs -many of Spears’ most charted- and includes collaborations with artists such as Gay Hollywood, JPOLND, Dresage, Kids at Midnight, ZOLA, Illicit Ghost, Boh Doran, Talker, and Leah Levi, among many others who became the architects of the album.
Each version presents authentic nuances that bear the signature of the artists, therefore we are not lying when say that you will listen to the songs that you loved in the past, with a new stamp and style that enhances the melodies with incredible arrangements. 25% of the proceeds from the album sale will go to the ACLU SoCal Chapter to help combat abuse and inequity.
Dresage, who was in charge of covering Oops I did it again, said âI chose to get involved in the #freebritney project because I was sickened by the control exposed over her life via her abusive conservatorship. I hope this can shed light on arrangements like this for all people from pop stars to everyday people who are in abusive, controlling situations. Oops! … I did it again is such a jam, and one of my favorites growing up. I can’t even believe how iconic the song is, it was a no-brainer to take it in a slightly unhinged horror pop direction â.
Talker did the Lucky cover and about the case indicated that â(âŠ) I kept thinking about how if someone like Britney Spears who seemingly has so much power and money can be in this situation, how many other people must be trapped in situations – without the entire world rallying behind them. I’m honored to be part of this project and had so much fun producing this track â.
For Leah Levi âBritneyâs story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. A project supporting the voice and independence of a woman whose art has helped many find liberation themselves is one that I’m honored to stand behind. Itâs an honor to be a part of this project with so many other gifted individuals. I hope this collaborative project helps bring awareness, aid, and peace to those struggling within their own conservatorships â.
Britney is the youngest artist to reach an impressive 12 platinum albums. Everything was the result of her work and perseverance. In 1999, she was nominated for two Grammys (including the coveted “Best New Artist”). At the “1999 MTV Europe Awards” she won the awards for: “best female singer”, “best pop artist”, “best staging” and “best song”.
To support her, many artists were present through social networks, including her former romantic partner Justin Timberlake, the world-famous Madonna, and even the South African tycoon Elon Musk.
This case had so much resonance in social media that two congressmen from the United States, one from the Republican Party and the other from the Democrat party, presented a bill that seeks to facilitate changes in the tutelage of Britney but also of others. people affected by the same measure.
So as you listen to these incredible homages, do not forget that more than an album this is a declaration of principles against injustice that affects many people: the abuse of power by legal guardians and by the music industry itself.
