Multi-faceted genius IDMAN (they/them/she/her) has blessed us with a new visual and sonic masterpiece with “Look At What I’m Doing To You”. The ethereal Hype Williams-influenced video directed by frequent collaborator, activist, and friend Sabaah Folayan transports listeners to the dancefloor and invites them into their alluring world of black excellence with cameos from up-and-coming Black queer and trans actors, organizers, and classically trained dancers, contortionists, authors, and screenwriters.
“I wanted to create something that was not seen before and that felt like a time capsule. With “Look At What I’m Doing To You” we did that. LAWIDTY’s production was unique because it involved predominantly Black, queer, trans, woman, and femme persons in front of the camera and behind the scenes. 10 years from now when you look back at the video you will see familiar rising artists who were involved because there were so many rising creatives featured. I feel very prideful in my lived experiences as a Black Muslim woman whose parents immigrated from Somalia. This is an experience whose intricacies and histories I bask in. In spite of all of the things out there intended to make feel undignified- I am fearless.” Idman says of the illustrious video.
