Music KNOCK, KNOCK YOUR FAVORITE NEW POPSTAR IS AT THE DOOR: HEATHER RUSSELL

You know that old Dolly Parton saying, “The higher the hair, the closer to god?” Heather Russell should get her own phrase. “The higher the note, the closer to goddamn perfection.” Russell’s debut EP “Knock, Knock” features five catchy, pop-forward tracks poised to live rent-free in your brain for the next… lifetime. It also happens to be a masterclass in vocal runs that you’ll try (and fail) to sing along to in the car. But in the best way.

“Say Hello” is a bold and uninhibited introduction to a shiny young artist. It’s more of a Kool-aid man bursting through a brick wall type of greeting, but in the form of a diminutive, timelessly chic Canadian girl package, if we’re being sincere. Every song has something to offer in terms of phenomenal vocals, relatable lyrics, and juicy production, but “Don’t Wanna” is particularly catchy and of the moment. After a few bars, you’ll be tempted to compare her to the Careys, Grandes, and Rodrigos of the world, but an artist like this deserves her own name recognition. Heather Russell has arrived. Take note. And listen on repeat.
