Hear the Waves Crash: Trace Remains’ “Silent Bell” is a Must-Listen

Trace Remains, the melodic post-hardcore quintet, is set to make a strong impression with their debut album, “Leverage the Tides,” and their new single, “Silent Bell,” is the perfect introduction.

The guys of Trace Remains have been steadily building a following in the rock music scene with their distinctive mix of melodic post-hardcore and indie rock. Singer and guitarist Joey Vesely fronts the quintet, joined by guitarists Joel Grimes and John Perry, bassist Jon Rigatti, and drummer Jesse Tranfo. Trace Remains’ music showcases a tight-knit collaboration evident in every release. Their distinct sound is a mix of heavy, muted guitar riffs with soaring vocal lines, and rich chord progressions.

Trace Remains’ unique style can be appreciated within their previous releases, from the introspective “Sold My Soul” to the more gentle “Over The Dying,” Trace Remains summon the raw energy of post-hardcore, the intensity of post-punk, and the rhythm of alt-rock and indie rock. Their songs are a powerful combination of rough guitars, passionate melodies, and forceful arrangements, occasionally softened by piano interludes.  The band’s music is a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. Their sound can shift from moments of quiet reflection to explosive bursts of energy. This versatility allows them to create a rich and engaging listening experience. Trace Remains has a knack for crafting songs that linger in the mind, with memorable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.

Their latest single, “Silent Bell” is a profound exploration of human emotion in the face of overwhelming forces. The theme and image of water can be sensed right from the start, this is related to the water narrative on the upcoming album, “Leverage the Tides.” By conjuring vivid imagery of impending catastrophe, Trace Remains has crafted a song that is both visceral and introspective.

It starts slowly, building anticipation before exploding into a whirlwind of sound and melody. The track’s raw energy mirrors the chaos of a natural disaster, while its contemplative moments reflect the quiet contemplation that often follows such events. “Silent Bell” perfectly demonstrates their ability to shift from one genre to another, showcasing how they can easily blend both, the result being an intense, emotional breakdown. Ultimately, “Silent Bell” is an invitation to confront life’s challenges head-on, finding strength and resilience in the face of adversity.

“The water in the song is ultimately a metaphor for the process of change. There are times in life when a major shift or unforeseen change happens, and the images evoked in the lyrics are intended to paint a picture of the way this process can feel. I think sometimes the best way to navigate life during these times is to lean into the change and embrace the unknown of what lies ahead. To allow the unknown to become an opportunity for personal growth and evolution.” — Joey Vesely
