Some of your music was not intended to be performed live; what then would be the best way to listen to your music, tapes, vinyl or digital?
Well, ‘not intended to be played live’ is not the best way of putting it. Its really just to say the writing and recording are one and the same process, where as playing live, for me, is a basic recital of the songs on record more ‘stripped down’ arrangement better suited for a live ensemble. music is music but only to the listener- the format and the means of transmission are irrelevant to me
Haunted Graffitiā€™s material steps away from your former lo-fi recording, is this intended for commercial audiences? Is it created with live performances in mind?
No. And i always have to clear this up: Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti is not a new, commercial take on ‘Ariel Pink’; the new material may be cleaner, more palatable for audiences than the older material, but thats a natural progression. Everything ive ever done should be filed under the APHG banner.
How do you feel about what the “critics” are saying about ‘Mature Themesā€™ Do you ever take feedback into consideration for your next albums?
Depends. Whats the general consenus? Im sure some like it more than others. Some people prefer Before Today. I dont know. Im happy for those who are happy with it.
How has the process of producing and composing your own music evolved, is it something you will keep on doing?
I hope so. Getting ripped off by people so often can be pretty exhausting. This industry thrives on exploiting artists like me, who work year-round for relatively little pay, making new fans, if not losing older fans. It is fickle and it can get to u sometimes. But u just gotta enjoy the ride, it may all end tomorrow…
Whatā€™s the craziest thing you guys have done and/or seen on stage?
Thats a tough one. Lemme think about it…
What is the grossiest thing you ever did at a festival?
I french kissed a man in the audience with blue hair…

That’s a REALLY hard one….most exciting for me?- impossible to say. Most exciting for the audience? Ask them!!!

Fletcher C Johnson PLAY SATURDAY @BURGERAMA

ļ»æWhat is the grossest thing you ever did at a festival? I was at a festival with my parents and Ke$ha was about to play so I told my dad we couldnā€™t miss this! I was rocking pretty hard and my dad was confused and then Ke$ha played ā€œDinosaurā€ and I looked at my dad and I looked at myself and I looked at the entire crowd of 15 year olds and I realized that song might be about me.Ā  What has been your most exciting live performance so far? One time I was playing a basement show in Lawrence Kansas and there was a tornado in the distance that had just completely destroyed a nearby city. I was freaking out because I could see it from the window of the house. I asked them if we should cancel the show and they said, ā€œWeā€™re already in a basement.ā€ We went to the liquor store before the show and I saw a homeless guy sleeping under a slide in a playground.Ā Tell us your craziest experience at a festival. I rode with my brotherā€™s band on tour once to sxsw selling their t shirts and what not. When we got to Austin I had all their money in my pocket. I started drinking thunderbird hobo wine because thereā€™s a Townes Van Zandt song advising you not to drink it and I wanted to test my luck. The last thing I remember was drinking Sparks with some Jamaican guys in an alley. I woke up the next day on an unfamiliar couch with strangers asleep all around me and a frying pan on my chest. All the money was gone!!! Something like $500! It took me almost 2 hours to walk back to downtown Austin and, in that time, I learned that I had spent all my brotherā€™s savings at a strip club treating some friends to the kind of things that happen there. I prayed that this information had not reached my brother. Maybe there was some way I could hide it until we got home and I could earn enough to pay him back! I wasnā€™t downtown for more than 5 minutes when my brother came running up to me yelling, ā€œDid you spend all of our money at a strip club!ā€ What bands do you have crushes on? Iā€™m in love with every girl that plays music. I canā€™t stop it.Ā  What band of this line up would you rather share the stage with? I do not understand the strange wording of this question. But, if you mean ā€œwho am I most excited to play with?ā€ BEACHWOOD SPARKS!!! So excited. I used to be in a country band but I loved pop music. I would ask myself, ā€œHow can I combine country and the Beatles?!?!ā€ Then I got the first Beachwood Sparks record and realized, ā€œShit. Itā€™s already been done. And itā€™s more beautiful than I could have imagined!ā€ When is the next album coming up? I wrote a new album this winter. I recorded demos for most of the songs and they already sound great! One of them is about how I want to go to sleep but then my girlfriend comes over with a six pack of Corona and makes me drink them all. I donā€™t know when Iā€™ll start recording the final versions of the songs. Sooooooon.Ā  What is the best way to listen to your music, tape, vinyl or digital? Vinyl + headphones + laying on the floor (or your bed if youā€™re smart enough to put your stereo within a headphone-cableā€™s reach of your bed).

Wyatt Shears PLAY SATURDAY @BURGERAMA

What is the grossest thing you ever did at a festival? Ate a beaver. What has been your most exciting live performance so far? I had a banana thrown at my head during The Garden’s set and it knocked me out. Tell us your craziest experience at a festival. I ran into a goose at the family values tour during Limp Bizkit. The Blue Man Group. Absolutely no one else. What band of this line up would you rather share the stage with? Probably Buckcherry. If you had to choose, would it be to play in festivals/stadiums or small venues?Either one would be nice. Name your favorite music festival and why? I don’t have a favorite. Maybe the Family Values with Korn, Biscuit, Trapt ,etc. What is the best way to listen to your music, tape, vinyl or digital? I don’t think that there is best way. Whatever makes the listener comfortable. What is one thing you want to say to Burger Records? Thank you for everything.
