Her Love Is A Drug: Discover Sweden’s Tove Lo

story / Erica Russell

Smokey-voiced Swedish chanteuse Tove Lo is prepped for landing. Her tellingly titled debut EP, Truth Serum,is out March 4th on Island Records, and if he buzzing lead single “Habits” is any indication, listeners are queued for a moody but honest synth-pop romp.

The Stockholm native comes, of course, from a long line of pop-minded Swedes (Robyn, Icona Pop, the list goes on), so it’s no surprise that her rhythmic, melodic cuts are sharp, catchy, and expertly primed for heartbreak-fueled late night dance parties.
Polished, but just a pinch jagged around the edges, Lo’s “Habits” is raw and earnest; whirling synths and a quirky beat are topped with honey-voiced lyrics about the worst habit: love. Another track off the EP, “Not On Drugs,” is a zippy, effortlessly infectious – much like its hinted subject matter – electro-pop banger.

For more, we’ll have to wait until March 4th. But that’s okay: we’re already hooked.
