Goody Grace is on the rise in the music world, with a unique style that can’t be easily defined or put into a single category. Is he punk? Rock? Hip-hop? He’s collaborated with gnash, Lil Aaron, and Jesse Rutherford (The Neighborhood), sings angelically, plays a mean guitar, and raps with a lyrical grace beyond his years. What else would you expect from a musician who cites influences as vast and varied as David Lynch, Morrissey, Danzig, and Watchmen, with a musical style that encompasses hip-hop, punk, pop, and folk?
Goody’s new video for his single “Judas” highlights his self-described cinematic style, and perfectly demonstrates how his music and style only fit into a class all their own.
“Judas is a very special song to me,” Goody says. “From the moment I started writing it, I knew I wanted to make an artistic music video that matched the dark feeling of the music.”
With David Lynch-esque visuals and a clear influence of filmmaking, “Judas” artistically expresses the youthful yearning and questioning in Goody’s intelligently written lyrics. The beauty of the ornate, golden church, paired with Goody’s punk, hip-hop fashion sense, and the dark edge of blood and tears, helps to emphasize the contrast between ethereal guitars and a sweet, lyrical vibe in sections of the song, and hard-hitting, dark, hip-hop verses.
