In the past, pop singer and songwriter Jena Rose was mostly known for her super popular tunes like “Sweet Love,” which were climbing the Billboard Dance Club charts just last year. Besides touring with mega-indie-band Echosmith in over 25 cities in 2018, Jena Rose released her debut EP, Reasons — a collection of songs written entirely on her piano.
After becoming known in the dance world, Jena is taking a bit of turn — back to the good kind of pop that the charts have seemingly been missing as of late — with her new single, “Manners.” The tune starts with a solemn melodic vibe, and steadily builds to an anthemic chorus — and can perhaps be described as the “female yin” to male pop artists like “Lauv’s yang.”
Jena says the tune is about “wanting someone to not only be kind to you in a relationship, but also to others. It’s so important to be respectful to people you meet, because how you act towards those around you shows your true colors.” And what better way to say that with classic and simplistic verse melodies like “you can keep your money…” — that then satisfyingly resolve in unforgettable choruses with, “just show me your manners…”
Jena adds, “On one hand, the song is simply about common courtesy, on the other hand, it’s so much bigger than that. If we can all treat each other right and spread love, the world would be a better place.”
