RELEASE RADAR: TWO WEEKS IN MUSIC

Over the decades, musicians have incrementally increased their level of production. Be it more inspiration in the world (the happy side of the coin) or simply having more to say, our developing technology has made it readily possible for artists to also release more music, as often as they want.

Right now, with the whole world stuck at home, music serves as an invisible connector, documenting the feelings and experiences of the current moment and transporting them across continents. We used to cry and laugh in each other’s arms; now, we emote alongside them in song.

Stay connected with these artists below. Here are our ten favorite releases of the week:

KYGO & ONE REPUBLIC – Lose Somebody

“Sometimes you gotta lose somebody just to find that you really loved someone;” And sometimes it takes tragic heartbreak to write a certified hit.

YEBBA – Distance

“Somewhere we had departed into our daydreams, experiencing no real push and pull of desire for the people we were separately.” Yebba glides across the musical scale like pebbles on a lake, turning songs into waterfalls of emotion. Her latest is no exception to the power this poetic singer possesses.

LIANNE LA HAVAS – Paper Thin (npr tiny desk home concerts)

“Love yourself or else you can’t love no one else.” Lianne’s words are as incredibly soothing as her voice. Her newest muse Paper Thin is like a meditative, stream of conscious brilliantly played here on a classical guitar. Her new EP is on the way and until then, this home concert is a must watch.

KIM PETRAS – Malibu

Featuring fans on fake beaches, undeniably joyful grooves, and clips of JVN, Paris, and Demi in quarantine, Kim’s new video Malibu is the real summer lovin’ we’ve been waiting for.

MKTO – How Much

“The song is about asking the question how badly do you really want this,” Tony explains. “and if you do, then show it.” A classic MKTO banger, these guys are as clever as they are charming. Soulful confidence is all over their newest, ‘How Much.’

MAX – Missed Calls (ft. Hayley Kiyoko)

“Hayley Kiyoko and I have been friends for almost 10 years so this song has been a long time coming,” MAX shared. A nostalgic, floaty number between two greats, listen to ‘Missed Calls’ while pulling weights or getting ready for a Zoom date instead of spiraling on your ex’s Instagram.

LIZA ANNE – Bad Vacation

“I needed sun and a soft breeze, you were like sand in my ice cream.” Join Liza on her bad vaca. The creative, carefree vibes are perfectly infectious.

JASMINE THOMPSON – Love For The Lonely

Even when you’ve been FaceTiming all day, the world right now feels a little lonely. Snuggle up to Jasmine’s powerful voice for a new connection.

STEPHEN PUTH – Watching You Walk Away

“’Watching You Walk Away’ is about a relationship never getting too deep. Sometimes we don’t say what we mean and show what we feel…” He’s honest, he’s skilled, and he’s writing himself into a new lane that crosses indie, pop, and a nostalgic newness. We’re not walking away from you, Stephen.

LENNON STELLA – Summer Feelings (ft. Charlie Puth)

“I’m melting like ice cream, the stress is gone for me.” Is it summer already? Seems so, for these two, and this song is an absolute hit for it. Heavy yet finely subdued, the beats are enough to carry us through until it’s actually summer – and then hit repeat once again.
