Emily Haber’s New Single “Nostalgia” Is the Time Machine You Need

Emily Haber grew up immersed in music, surrounded by a family of award-winning musicians who deeply influenced her early years. Her journey is one of resilience, shaped by both personal and professional challenges. From a young age, Emily pursued music professionally, overcoming significant obstacles. Born with severe hearing loss in both ears, she relied on hearing aids from the age of four. For ten years, she performed largely by instinct and muscle memory, as her hearing aids frequently failed mid-performance, leaving her to navigate live shows in near silence. It wasn’t until she was 13—when advances in hearing aid technology allowed her to hear her own voice clearly for the first time—that she experienced music in a whole new way. By 17, thanks to the Starkey Foundation, she could finally perceive the full depth of sound, blending her innate musical intuition with a newfound clarity. This unique perspective on music is something listeners can feel in her recordings.

In 2015, she faced a devastating loss when her mother passed away from stage 4 ovarian cancer—an event that profoundly impacted her life and artistry. After spending a decade making music exclusively with her family, this turning point marked the beginning of her solo career, a path defined by both hardship and triumph. In 2017, Emily signed with Prescription Songs, officially launching her professional songwriting career. Since then, she has collaborated with diverse artists, including Andy Grammer, Joy Oladokun, Anna Clendening, Gryffin, Abby Anderson, carobae, Miki Ratsula, Devon Gabriella, and Erika Jayne. Her work has also found a place in television and film, with features on CNN, The Sex Lives of College Girls, The L Word, The Hills, Batwoman, and Teen Mom.

Her latest release, “Nostalgia,” captures the ache of a childhood she never truly had, weaving together wistful dreams and the bittersweet reality of growing up. Lyrically, it paints a picture of a carefree youth—playing with friends late into the night, waiting for a favorite song to come on the radio, and longing for the innocence of the past. The song captures the magic of childhood, evoking a sense of wonder and wistfulness.

Opening with a soothing acoustic guitar melody, the track is soon accompanied by Emily’s delicate vocals. As the song progresses, a more upbeat rhythm takes over, shifting the tone to something lively and uplifting. Sonically rich and layered, every element in “Nostalgia” complements the next. With its evocative storytelling and seamless blend of acoustic warmth and energetic rhythms, “Nostalgia” is a standout track.

Emily Haber’s ability to translate longing and memory into song makes “Nostalgia” an essential listen for anyone hoping to reconnect with their past. This single is the first release from her upcoming EP of the same name, produced by Grammy-winning Daniel Dávila (Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, Timbaland). Their collaboration began in March 2023, when both were invited to speak on a songwriting panel at USC. This meeting sparked a creative partnership that led to the creation of the EP, a collection in which Emily finally felt empowered to share stories uniquely her own. “Nostalgia” EP captures her evolution, highlighting both her artistic growth and distinctive storytelling voice.
