Clear Mortifee is a breath of honest air for the LGBTQ community, making spiritual pop with an iconic edge. The Canadian singer has an illusory charm on stage, delivering energetic chants. Their latest collaboration with ethereal, electronic producer NoKillShelter is one you will have on repeat for days, no matter who or where you are.
‘Sweetheart’ is a gentle groove, with tapping synths and plenty of space for sunny vocals to roam. NoKillShelter focuses the vibe using field samples and electric guitar, while the video follows Clear as they perform down a residential street. Sporting an open, black Hawaiin T, cargo pants, and a sun visor fit for Star Trek, Clear’s style in this video is out of control.
‘Sweetheart’ shares the story of connection between two strangers in 5-D, highlighting a crucial lack of attachment that enabled Clear to grow with the experience. A genre-fluid non-binary artist, Clear’s creative vision channels from a spiritual realm, centered on empowering the trans + femme communities on sex and art. With fans all over the world and streams on Spotify alone climbing over 4 million, it is poignantly clear that their message is coming through.
Long-time collaborator and friend, NoKillShelter, couldn’t be more of a match for Clear’s vision. Immersed in Taoist culture while working at a Chinese Medical Center (Yo San), Eckhart found the gift of meditation. He set out to learn every instrument himself, yearning to “learn the process of packaging art as whole.” The drummer-turned producer creates introspective dreamscapes through the use of hand collected samples and vintage synths.
The pair will be releasing a second single together this year, ‘Fairy Quing,’ and we hope it won’t be their last.
