Fresh off performances during LAMC in New York, Hunters of the Alps, the brainchild of Peruvian-American musician Mario Giancarlo, is premiering their latest track and accompanying video, “Dry Run.” The song is a tantalizing preview of the forthcoming third EP, “ROMA.” The single bursts forth with a blend of steady percussion, reverb-soaked guitars, and a mix of foreboding yet uplifting synths, representing a seamless sonic progression from their 2022 EP, “Today Mañana.”

Giancarlo describes “Dry Run” as the most ethereal track on the record, aiming to create an inviting atmosphere that feels like a preview or first taste. “I wanted it to feel very inviting,” he says. The song spans psychedelic soundscapes and pulsating 80s electronic elements, evoking the spirit of artists like Scott Walker and Julio Iglesias while maintaining the band’s unique nostalgic, and introspective style.

Drawing inspiration from a diverse playlist that includes Ruben Blades, Chameleons UK, Gustavo Cerati, and DIIV, Giancarlo injects a Latin and familiar undertone into his compositions. “Dry Run” could fit comfortably alongside Fleetwood Mac’s “Tusk” era in its bright, optimistic sound, tempered by a profound sense of loss and wonder.

The music video for “Dry Run,” shot by Alex Blanco and edited by Giancarlo himself, captures a journey from Nevada to California through a series of moving images on various formats. “I wanted the visual aspect of the song to reflect the journey of one’s life, that sometimes the ride is the destination,” Giancarlo explains.

Hunters of the Alps is a bilingual music project led by Mario Giancarlo, reflecting his Peruvian-American heritage and varied influences. As an immigrant, a Latino, a writer, a filmmaker, and a veteran of the music industry, Giancarlo offers a unique perspective and a sound that defies easy classification.

With roots in the Miami indie-alternative scene and involvement in bands like MODERNAGE, PRIVATE SCHOOL, and HUNTERS OF THE ALPS, Giancarlo has shared stages with artists such as Peter Hook, The Walkmen, Twin Shadow, Tanlines, Kevin Kaarl, Vanessa Zamora, Bloc Party, and more. Now, he presents the first single from his second solo EP under Hunters of the Alps.

The project, which began as a collaboration in 2012, has seen modest success across the Americas. Now a solo endeavor, it allows Giancarlo to delve into familiar territory while showcasing sounds from his childhood in Peru and influences from the past decade.

As the nephew of renowned Peruvian songwriter José Escajadillo, Giancarlo has a deep connection to emotion and delivery. With a renewed sense of purpose, he embraces his bilingual identity and diverse influences, making this new phase of Hunters of the Alps an exciting and liberated second act. Gone are the compromises and hesitations; in their place is an artist proud of his roots and eager to explore, connect, and create.

“Dry Run” is now available for streaming, promising to be a compelling glimpse into the upcoming “ROMA” EP. Watch the video and experience the journey for yourself.
