For musician NoMBe’s forthcoming album, Chromotopia, we are anticipating a fully present, sensually attuned, inventive reintroduction. The heart of that muscle is songs like his recently released “heels”. A poetically rich, stimulatingly lush flirtation with minimalism pairing everything down to one color, one landscape, one shot, and of course, one girl. The on-camera talent is his real-life girlfriend photographer, stylist, and cultural producer, Grace Bukunmi. Together, the two rock-out to NoMBe’s choreography and natural adoration for each other’s youth.
The video directed by close collaboration Art Johnson takes us on an energetic dance through the intoxicating air and sun of the California desert with a staple red Gibson-like six-stringer, a classic 300 e Benz and a table of drama. The video springs from NoMBe’s desire to give each plant more space in the ground in his artistic journey, thus creating a video that highlights his classic songwriting while making room for deep questions about overindulgence and it’s a threat to the sanctity and individuation of love.
