Q+A: WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE AND WHY WITH BØRNS

Little is known about recently emerged, LA-based, “tree-house dwelling transplant” BØRNS. (Seriously, check his Soundcloud.) But one might wager that the singer-songwriter is simply the musical lovechild of Bowie and Stevie Nicks, a beloved bastard son of the dreamy soundscapes that formed astral glam rock as well as the earthy ballads of folk-pop.

Tellingly, his mysterious debut, “10,000 Emerald Pools,” is a cool dip by an enigmatic artist; a folksy, easy-breezy slice of indie electronica at its most ethereal and refreshing. We caught up with BØRNS to have a few of our burning questions answered.

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE & WHY WITH BØRNS

WHO are you, BØRNS?
BØRNS is my inner child. The kid that writes all my songs. I give him all the credit.
WHAT inspires you?
There’s a lot to be inspired by these days. Constant stimulation. I like simplifying an idea to the bare bones. Undressing it to find the naked truth. Some art is beautiful nude, some needs fancy jewelry.
WHEN can we hear more?
I’m very excited to be releasing an EP late fall. Come see my band at CMJ this year if you’d like a live preview.
WHERE are you from?
The sand dunes of Lake Michigan and one of the chilliest places on earth.
WHY are there 10,000 emerald pools?
It’s actually a home address in Las Vegas. Probably the only house on the market with a theme song.
BONUS:
HOW is living in a tree-house?
I’ve always wanted to sing from the treetops. It’s very peaceful and there are plenty of loquats for breakfast.
