Whatever. Like, Australian rapstress Iggy Azalea totally teamed up with British goth-pop princess Charli XCX on the new ‘Clueless’ inspired video for “Fancy,” and it’s way harsh.
In the Julien Christian Lutz-directed clip, which pays homage to Amy Heckerling’s 1995 cult classic, Iggy – donning that iconic yellow plaid two-piece – gives Cher Horowitz a run for her American Express, playing the precocious teen in a variety of expertly recreated scenes from the film. Charli, who provides the melodically infectious hook (“I’m so fan-cay, you already know-ow; I’m in the fast lane, from LA to Tokyo”), plays the role of confident post-makeover Tai.
From Mr. Hall’s debate class, to the infamous Valley party scene, to Dionne’s freeway panic attack, the 90’s style music video (which was filmed at the same school as the film) is packed with authentically nostalgic visuals, sound-tracked by the slick flow, thumping bass-line and wonky, attitude-laden beats of the new single. It’s way existential.
