RYAL premieres her ethereal track, “Charity,” which she explains is partially inspired by the state of the country post-election.
“Aaron [Nevezie] and I wrote ‘Charity’ with UK based cinematic composer, Chris White, who is one of Aaronâs long time musical collaborators,” says Ryal. “Aaron heard a piece Chris had written that had this beautiful and captivating chord sequence on piano. Chrisâs piano inspired a haunting minimalist arrangement that was reminiscent of Darren Aronofsky films and the dead of winter. When we started working on the song it was in October of last year and it had a completely different storyline. Then when November came along, it was hard not to write about the outcome of the election. Over the course of last year so much hatred came out of the wood work and it made me think how we all need to take a beat and watch our thoughts. Come the result of the election one of the first thoughts I had–like so many–was,’How the heck can I get out of this country?’, but after some time, I thought how important it is for people who want something different for this country and for this world to stay.”
