EDEN, aka Jonathan Ng, premieres a new video for his track, “float!”
Ng writes, produces, and plays his own music, often juggling multiple instruments on stage. The Dublin based artist has spent the past three years pouring all those roles into the tracks that make up his debut album, vertigo.
In “float”, EDEN explores how seemingly small moments in relationships often have a massive impact. That sentiment is captured visually in the music video through quotidian moments punctuated by otherworldly happenings, and is also sonically present throughout the track. Walking the line between stirring beats and subdued lyrics, “float” is a literal medley of earnest emotion and ingenuity. In it, EDEN urges “I could be what you need girl if you want me to / If you let me” backed by samples of shattering glass, ambulance sirens, and his mother’s voice in the midst of an intimate conversation that was accidentally recorded during a family trip.
“It’s more like I’m uncovering something that’s already there. Like how an archaeologist doesn’t create a fossil — they’re just finding it and uncovering it, and maybe rearranging it if it’s broken. Releasing this body of work is terrifying and exciting and overwhelming for me. A lot of it is so personal. This album is not a coming-of-age story, but it caused one,” says Ng of his process.
EDEN releases his debut full-length album vertigo this Friday, January 19th. Catch him on his worldwide headlining tour this March!
