Listening to Nashville sister-duo Poema is like basking underneath a light-dappled window after a sun-shower: their music is sunny, mellow, brimming with warmth, and full of good vibes. Pretty Speeches is the upcoming EP from the indie-pop sisters, and while the release is due July 10th, we’re happy to present an early treat—the music video premiere for the band’s sadly saccharine second single “Forget You In L.A.,” a melodic, mid-tempo electro-pop ballad featuring sweet, layered vocals and charmingly Southern guitar strums nestled in twinkly synths.
As a visual, the video is just as emotive as the track, featuring quiet shots of sisters Elle and Shealeen loitering next to brick walls, climbing trees, and lamenting their heartache poolside, each scene representing a sort of restless stagnation. “The song is about wanting to move away from your life,” the girls explain. “Wanting to go as far as you can go east or west, but knowing that it’s just wishful thinking. So we made the video a dream sequence that simulates the reality where you feel stuck. Nothing moves forward in the video. It’s all very stiff and everything has a sort of complication that prevents you from progressing.”
